You only need one liquor to instantly transport you to the tropics: Malibu rum! One whiff of this Caribbean rum loaded with coconut flavor will have you believing it's sand, and not snow, in between your toes. Original Malibu Rum is the most popular for bartenders and home-mixologists alike, but did you know there are over nine different Malibu Coconut Rum flavors that'll elevate your mixed drink into a tropical cocktail?
What is Malibu Rum?
Created by Tom Jago of International Distillers & Vintner in 1982, Malibu was originally made in Curaçao as a mixture of fruit spirits flavored with rum and coconut flavoring as a way to make piña coladas easier to serve.
Once the liquor gained popularity production moved to Barbados. It is currently owned by the French company Pernod Ricard, who owns Absolut, Jameson, Beefeater London, Kahlua, Pernod, and The Glenlivet.
Funnily enough, the liquor is named after the coastal town in Califonia, hundreds of miles from the Caribbean.
