How to Make Beer-Candied Bacon at Home

This beer-candied bacon recipe is classically delicious because few things in life are better than the savory-sweet combination of brown sugar and bacon. Because it really is so easy, these bacon strip snacks can be made on the fly and look as though you've taken real care to prepare them. Friends showing up for a Sunday football game? Family popping in for a surprise visit? Your house will smell like bacon and candy, and that's really all that anyone could want.

All you need is a darker beer and some brown sugar for the glaze, two items that are always on hand. For the dark beer, we used Left Hand Brewing's Nitro Milk Stout, which is a creamier beer that tastes like a dessert in itself. Don't be afraid to drench the bacon in the delicious glaze. The more you brush on, the better it will taste as it caramelizes in the oven.

If you're a fan of crispier bacon, these steps can be repeated as necessary. Because the glaze will candy the bacon and coat it, turning darker as it cooks, it's best to physically touch the bacon to check it's cooked through as opposed to just relying on sight. The crispier the bacon, too, the more it will stand on its own for a pretty presentation in a glass.
