Earlier this week, we reported that the former New York City mayor was in critical condition.
According to CBS News, Giuliani's spokesperson has confirmed he left the intensive care unit after treatment for pneumonia.
He added that the former politician "will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital."
"The mayor and his family appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers sent his way," he said.
What Happened to Rudy Giuliani?
At the time of our report, the reason for Giuliani's hospitalization was not yet known. However, his spokesperson shared an optimistic outlook on the former mayor's health.
A statement said, "Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America's Mayor -- Rudy Giuliani."
Later in his career, Giuliani served as a lawyer to President Donald Trump. He was among those who challenged the results of the 2020 presidential election. He was then disbarred in New York and Washington, D.C., after a court found he made "demonstrably false and misleading statements." Most recently, Giuliani declared bankruptcy. This occurred after being found liable for $148 million in damages for sharing false remarks about Georgia election workers.
Trump sent his well-wishes to his former counsel.
"What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!" he wrote on Truth Social. "They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!"
Giuliani Has Suffered From a Similar Diagnosis Before
According to his spokesperson, Giuliani was previously diagnosed with restrictive airway disease. He shared that it was a result of being close to the wreckage of the World Trade Center towers on Sep. 11, 2001.
"This condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition," said the spokesperson.
