Major New Details Emerge Surrounding Gabby Petito's Passing
The NY Post shares that an unidentified man filed a report with the FBI. That report says that he believes he saw Petito and her boyfriend,Brian Laundrie, during their road trip. However, when this man saw the couple, they did not look very happy. He shared with the FBI that Laundrie "was seen acting like a lunatic." These new details are slightly alarming.
Apparently he saw Laundrie slap Petito, which caused him to turn around out of concern for the young woman. Then, he parked on the opposite side of the road to watch the encounter unfold, seemingly to ensure Petito did not get further hurt. According to the FBI documents, Laundrie was acting very bizarre.
The documents share the following details about the encounter that unfolded. "The male acted like a lunatic," they wrote. Additionally, Laundrie was seen "opening and slamming doors and pacing around the van. He seemed to be pleading with the female and at one point may have tried to hug the female, but was pushed back by her." This indeed does seem like odd behavior.
Finally, "The male ultimately pushed the female's legs into the passenger side of the van, closed her door, and entered the driver's side." While all of this seems bizarre the unidentified man made the choice not to call 911.
Why Did He Not Call 911?
While the man acknowledged that the behavior was odd, and he considered calling 911, he chose not to due to the fact that he had called in earlier about a separate incident.
Specifically, the document states, the man, "considered intervening and/or calling 911" but chose not to since he had already called the emergency number earlier the same day for an unrelated incident involving a trucker nearly running him off the road."
However, when news of Gabby Petito's disappearance began to flood headlines, this man's daughter reminded him of the bizarre encounter they had witnessed. Once they were confident that it was indeed Gabby Petito they had seen, they alerted the FBI of the incident. Petito's mother shared that she was unaware of this report and witness.
Furthermore, she shared with the Post that she wishes she could get in contact with this individual, as she has many questions for them. I can understand that completely. The news and information surrounding Gabby Petito's passing have been hard to stomach. Shortly after this unidentified man witnessed Laundrie acting strangely, Moab Police Department pulled the couple over.
Apparently another witness had made a call claiming they had seen Laundrie slap Petito. The couple denied any severe attack. However, police still made the choice to separate them for the night. Ten days later, Petito's family reported her missing.
Petito was last seen alive on August 27. Then, her body was " discovered in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19, with investigators ruling her cause of death as strangulation," according to the Post.
