In an interview with The Associated Press, Barbara Wiers, ALCS's director for elementary and communications, confirmed that Rupnow attended the school for only a semester before she fatally shot Rubi Vergara and Erin West, the 14-year-old student and 42-year-old teacher, respectively.

Despite the grizzly details of the shooting, Wiers still displays compassion for Rupnow's family. "I pray for this family because right now they've lost a daughter and they are wounded," Wiers said. "And they're dealing with the fact that their daughter did this terrible thing and hurt these other people. It has to be one of the loneliest, bitterest places to be."

Wiers, however, believes that the community in Madison, Wisconsin, and Abundant Life Christian School will heal, eventually. "Are we broken right now? Yes. Are we bruised and battered? Yes," Wiers said. "But we will laugh again, and He will turn our mourning into joy again. And we will go on."

Paffendorf's Mother Social Media

In regards to Alexander Paffendorf, who talked with Natalie Rupnow before her shooting, The Sun brought some of Paffendrof's unnamed mother's social media posts throughout the year. In them, she expressed disdain for public school, which led her to change Paffendorf to a private school.

"Tenure, paid holidays all summers off, they are so flipping lazy here in SoCal," Paffendorf's mother wrote on X. "Once they achieve tenure they check out mentally and get so very lazy. The children miss out, so we followed up with lessons at home and eventually pulled our son and placed him in a private AP school. It made all the difference."

According to her, she felt disappointed with the quality of the teachers in Southern California, saying that she only "witnessed" four teachers throughout his son's kinder to middle school education.

Paffendorf's mother would also blast Joe Biden and politicians in general. "The majority of our government is full of corrupt liars, pedophiles, and thieves with no actual idea or concern for how to run our country...it's one giant facade," she wrote. She then explained she posts by using a pseudonym over the fear of being laid off or canceled for criticizing "leftist woke views."

According to authorities, Alexander Paffendorf allegedly planned to attack a California government building with explosives in a coordinated attack with Natalie Rupnow.
