The Cause of Death of Judith Wyler Sheldon Is Still Being Investigated
As reported by the New York Post, the couple was found unresponsive. Judith was in the driver's seat. Wylie was in the passenger seat. Despite receiving emergency care, the two were declared dead at the scene.
The cause of death is still under investigation. However, it was reportedly medically related.
It has been speculated that Judith and Wylie's deaths may be related to an extreme heat warning issued that day. Temperatures reached over 100 degrees in the area. However, the California Highway Patrol has not shared whether the weather was a factor.
The Sheldons Supported the Arts
Judith and Wylie were often seen at art events in the San Francisco area over the years. Judith was also a co-chair of the 43rd Season Gala for the San Francisco Performances art organization.
But as the daughter of famed director William Wyler, Judith did not stray far from the film world. She appeared on several television shows in the 1950s and was also the board chair of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. Created to preserve silent films, Judith often hosted welcome parties at her home.
"We are reeling from this news," said Anita Monga, the artistic director of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. "Judy and Wylie were very dear to us, supportive and a positive presence at all our events."
Considered a master of the filmmaking craft, William had the distinction of having the most Oscar nominations for Best Director. Among his credits are the films The Best Years of Our Lives, Ben-Hur, and Funny Girl.
