What Dog Food Is Under the Recall?

Albright's Raw Pet Food voluntarily issued a recall for its Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced. A "routine sampling" by the Food and Drug Administration tested positive for Salmonella in a composite sample.

The Indiana-based company made the announcement on May 6. The pouches were sold nationwide on its website. They were also sold by retailers in Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and New York.

Affected products have an expiration date of April 28, 2027. They also have a product number of 20855404008367 and the lot code C001730. The one-pound pouches were sold in clear vacuum packaging.

There have been no reports of illness linked to the product in pets or humans. However, the company is still trying to determine how much Salmonella was detected in the sample. It is also awaiting results from a third-party lab.

The company said in the notice, "While we continue to evaluate all available data, Albright's Raw is proceeding with this voluntary recall to ensure the highest level of safety and transparency."

What Should I Do if I Have the Recalled Dog Food?

If you have the affected dog food product in your home, do not feed it to your dog. Dispose of it so that children, pets, and other wildlife cannot access it.

If you have any questions or want a refund, Albright's Raw Pet Food asks that you submit your receipt and photos of the affected product to [email protected], along with the location where you purchased the product.

"We remain committed to producing safe, high-quality, biologically appropriate pet food and will continue to update our customers and partners as more information becomes available," the company stated.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the symptoms of Salmonella in dogs include diarrhea with blood or mucus, lethargy, abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever. Pet owners are also at risk of contracting Salmonella if they come in contact with the product, the infected pet, or any contaminated surfaces.
