Freiberger had been meeting a mystery man that he met on a dating app for dinner for the first time. He disappeared shortly after. Now, friends are speaking with Daily Mail and painting a clearer picture of the timeline that led up to his disappearance.
The yoga instructor had recently gone through a breakup and was just starting to try to move on. Friends say that Freiberger had been chatting with a 40-something professional for weeks. That's who he went to meet. His body was found at a rock quarry a month later. It's unknown if he ever made it to his blind date.
"I don't know exactly what to think," said friend Gina Zucchet. "But obviously something really bad happened and we want answers."
Freiberger had recovered from drug addiction and had been focused on his own self journey of healing.
"He had been working hard on himself," says Zucchet. "But he was sociable and liked to be with other people. I can't speak to whether he was looking for something serious, but he was open to whatever happened."
Yoga Instructor Dies
Prior to his disappearance, the yoga instructor sent a couple of texts to both his father and friend. But then his phone went dead. He didn't FaceTime with his mother like usual. Freiberger also didn't show up for work.
"He was just gone," said friend Danny Cabrera. "And the longer he was gone, the more helpless I felt."
"He wouldn't leave that dog," added Cabrera. "There wasn't really anything we could do but post on social media to bring awareness that he was missing. I knew the longer this went on, the harder it would be to find him."
The medical examiner hasn't released a cause of death so far. The case remains under investigation.
"The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined and released," Vince Lewis, a lieutenant with the Phoenix Police Department, said. "This investigation remains ongoing."
Authorities have not confirmed foul play in the death of the yoga instructor.
"Currently, Freiberger's case is being handled as a death investigation," the Phoenix PD said. "Detectives are currently seeking the public's assistance for anyone who has knowledge regarding the circumstances of his disappearance and death."
However, friends are hoping for answers.
"I really hope that the cops will figure out what happened to him, and then the right thing will be done," said Zucchet. "He was so loved and he did so much for so many people."
