Actor Kevin Costner's departure from Yellowstone two years ago was almost as dramatic as what he did in front of the cameras as John Dutton, fierce patriarch of the fictional Dutton family. Rumors of a feud between Costner and Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan swirled at the time. Luke Grimes, who stars in his own spinoff of the acclaimed series, Marshals, evidently hasn't talked to Costner since then.

However, he says that there is no animosity going on. In fact, Grimes shared with USA Today, "I have never spoken to Kevin since we stopped working together. Not for any other reason other than we are both just busy guys and life moves on."
Grimes "Would Love" Some Flashbacks With Another Character From 'Yellowstone'
That said, Grimes thinks that there will not be any flashbacks featuring Kevin Costner on Marshals. Instead, he suggested that there could hopefully be some glimpses back into the past with actress Kelsey Asbille, who played Kayce Dutton's wife, Monica. That character was eliminated from the show; Kayce is now navigating his life as a single dad. Bringing her back even temporarily seems to be an idea that Grimes would clearly welcome.
"If there was a flashback, I would want it to be with [Kayce's wife] Monica than John. I think that would be more poignant to the character, but we will see. There's been no conversation, but, I sure would love it. I love working with her."
Taylor Sheridan Dished About Costner a Few Months Ago
When he visited The Bill Simmons Podcast in June, Sheridan mentioned Kevin Costner. The Academy Award-winning Dances With Wolves actor actually was reportedly ready to leave Yellowstone after three seasons. He was allegedly leaned on to remain for a couple more, per Page Six.
Sheridan noted, "That was in his contract. In my mind, that's when his youngest son takes over [on the show]... But the network was so scared of not having Kevin be a part of it, even though Kevin was ready. He was ready to go. He had other things he wanted to do."
Taylor Sheridan feels that Kevin Costner was persuaded to stay longer because Yellowstone was already "a behemoth." Walking away from a monster success like that is infrequent in Hollywood.
