You probably recall the furor over the choice of Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as the headliner for the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. It ignited a massive controversy that nearly overshadowed the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Talk about which entertainer should be the next one for the high-profile gig in 2027 has revved up already. One country star says he is ready and primed for the spot! Luke Combs is not wasting a minute when it comes to throwing his hat in the ring of potential country crooning contenders.

Combs Is Already Excited About the Gridiron Classic's Halftime Show
It's been ages since a country star was featured for the Super Bowl halftime show. Shania Twain did the honors back in 2003, so we are talking over two decades ago. There are tons of eligible performers who are wildly popular and can hold their own in front of a gigantic audience. Think Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, Riley Green, and of course, Luke Combs. Those are just a few possible candidates.
When he was a guest on The Zach Sang Show podcast, Luke Combs dished readily about the halftime show. What it comes down to is this. Would he do it? Combs said, "Hell yeah I would do it, I would do it right now."
He's Not Making a Pitch Only for Himself
Combs is not solely promoting himself. He is advocating for the country music genre to be spotlighted by the powers-that-be who run the Super Bowl.
The singer shared with Zach Sang, "Listen, again, it's not up to me, I think the people would love it. And that's no pitch for me, I think it's just a pitch for country music in general. Whether it's Garth or Morgan Wallen or whoever it is. Somebody deserves to be up there doing the thing."
He went on, "I don't think that's a thing you pitch yourself for, I don't think. Again, I don't know, but I don't think that's something you're like, 'Let me make a call.' I don't think it's that thing, maybe it is... but I think it's time for something like that to happen. And whoever it is, I'm gonna be just pumped for country music either way."
Luke Combs' new album, The Way I Am, drops on Friday, March 20.
