During a recent appearance on the official American Idol podcast, Luke Bryan defended Carrie for her critique of Mor during the episode.
"It's tough to do as a judge," Luke said, via Billboard. "It takes a lot of confidence in yourself, and you don't want to say something that's going to tank them in the competition. It's just something that they need to be thinking about if they go forward."
Luke's comment marked the second time he's spoken out in Carrie's defense regarding the audience's reaction to her criticism. At the time, he reminded the crowd that Carrie had previously won the competition.
"She only won this," Luke said at the time. "She knows."
Carrie won the fourth season of American Idol. She has since gone on to become a global success and now helps share her experiences as a judge on the show.
Carrie Underwood Also Addressed the Boos During the Podcast
Luke wasn't the only member of the judges' panel to speak out about the audience's reaction to Carrie on that episode. She also shared her own opinion of that moment, noting that she isn't phased if she gets booed.
"I don't care," Carrie said. "I can't lie, I'm a terrible liar. As a fan of the show, if there was ever somebody that kind of had an off night and everybody's like, 'Oh, my God that's so great,' I'm sitting at home being like, 'What? Liars!'"
Carrie is in her second season as a judge on American Idol. Outside of that March episode, she's appeared to be enjoying her role on the show. Unfortunately, that same role requires her to be honest with the contestants. Because of that, she may find herself upsetting the audience again in the future.
At least she knows that her co-judges have her back, especially Luke.
