No More "South Park"
It's hard to believe that South Park will be debuting its 29th season next week, Sep. 16. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show follows four foul-mouthed kids from the titular Colorado city.
Over the last few seasons, Parker and Stone have used the award-winning show to satirize current events. For example, last season showed President Donald Trump in a relationship with Satan.
The show's upcoming name change is another riff on current events. President Trump "changed" the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. He also recently rebranded Lake Ontario as Lake America. Apple and Google changed their map apps to reflect the change.
Considering that President Trump might start calling New Mexico "New America," Parker and Stone thought they should get ahead of the trend and rename their series. As reported by Variety, the duo announced the show's new name today, Sep. 8.
"Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to South America," Parker and Stone shared in a statement. "We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation."
The Show's Creators Took a Swipe at Their Boss, Too
The last line of the announcement is another swipe at President Trump, as well as the owner of Comedy Central's parent company, Skydance. It merged with Paramount in 2025, making it the owner of Comedy Central and the broadcast network CBS.
Much ink has been spilled over how owner David Ellison and his father, Larry, have been making concessions for President Trump so the merger could go through. Many believe that the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and the appointment of divisive political commentator Bari Weiss to the head of the network's news division were meant to appease the world leader.
The new season of South Park South America debuts on Sep. 16 at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Comedy Central. You can also stream it the next day on Paramount+.
