Little Big Town is about to release the follow up album to their 2014 album Pain Killer, but fans will be surprised to learn that the album will be nothing like the country music tunes they're used to.
Wanderlust is an eight-track album that has been secretly in the works for months and was produced in collaboration with rapper and producer, Pharrell. "It's not like anything we've ever done," band member Karen Fairchild says of the album. "It's fun to be spontaneous and put it out there to the fans, because we want to, and not to overthink it, but just because it has brought us a lot of joy, and we think it will for them as well."
The partnership started between the two acts back in January of this year during the big snowstorm that swept across Nashville. They all hit it off during their first session together and the wheels to produce the unexpected album were in motion.
Though the group is well aware of the risk a spin like this takes, they are optimistic about its portrayal saying that the music is both fun and inspiring. Fans can see for themselves if they agree when Wanderlust is released on June 10.
Although their newest album is a far cry from the genre that brought them success, Little Big Town isn't solidifying they'll continue to venture from it. Fairchild told Billboard that the country quartet has still been working on music in the country realm with Jay Joyce, the producer of Pain Killer.
In the meantime though they'll continue to prepare for the launch on Wanderlust and have promised fans that they have some exciting things up their sleeves to celebrate. This may even include an appearance by Pharrell at the Grand Ole Opry. Time will tell.
