Hear Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard's new album, Django and Jimmie, days before its official release.
Fans and critics have been anticipating their new collaboration since they announced it during this year's South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. The duo have released teasers of many of the songs, but now you can hear the entirety of Django and Jimmie before its official release on June 2.
82-year-old Nelson and 78-year-old Haggard weave humor, sadness and nostalgia throughout every single track on the album. Their tongue-in-cheek track "It's All Gone To Pot" is a new sort of stoner's anthem, while "Missing Ol' Johnny Cash" is a sweet but upbeat story-song that pays tribute to their dearly-departed country counterpart. The heartfelt ballad, "Unfair Weather Friend," is one of the stand-out gems on an incredibly solid list of tracks that is a testament to the incredible bond that has formed between the two artists over the decades.
Every track has an inspired spark that you can hear through each note that Nelson and Haggard sing that is rooted in mutual admiration and joy. The result is a reflective and thoughtful album that gives you the same feelings as when you flip through an old photo book. These two musical comrades have stories to tell, and some of the best have been shared on "Django and Jimmie."
