Police were summoned to Lillie Hill's home in Queens by a 911 call. The person who made the call reportedly said that there was a female "in distress who was vomiting." When first responders arrived, they found Hill, 81, "unresponsive." In fact, she was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital.
Per the outlet, Hill's home health aide allegedly performed some sort of medical procedure on her that resulted in "excessive bleeding." However, what that procedure might have been and whether the aide should have been doing it are unclear at this time. Nevertheless, the cause of death will be decided by the medical examiner.
NBC4 New York identified the aide as Patricia Williams, 36, of Brooklyn. The New York Post gave Williams' age as 46.
Hill's Saddened Neighbor Weighed In
Per CBS News, Miguel Robinson spoke out. "It's just unfortunate. If it was a sickness that took her, I could understand. But with all these different accusations now, it's, like, sad." He added, "It makes me scared to get an aide for my mom. You never know what kind of character they have or anything like that."
A Home Health Care Aide Was Arrested for Fraud in New York Earlier in October
There was a troubling case involving another home health care aide in New York recently. Although in that instance, the alleged crime was reportedly fraud. Per a news release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, Latricia Hires was charged with grand larceny in the third degree "and other related crimes for allegedly falsely billing Medicaid for over 300 hours of care for multiple disabled individuals."
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney strongly decried this type of wrongdoing. "People with intellectual disabilities and their families deserve caregivers they can trust. This defendant allegedly exploited that trust for her own financial gain, continuing to bill Medicaid for services she was no longer providing. Our office will hold accountable those who steal from public programs."
