Legendary Rock Star Ends Concert Early After Being Hit With Object From Crowd

Eric Clapton was struck in the chest by an object from the crowd during a recent concert in Madrid, Spain, as part of his current tour.

Eric Clapton is 81 years old. The fact that he's still touring and drawing crowds is a testament to the quality of his music catalog. Unfortunately, at 81, you have to take things more slowly, and a setback can take longer to recover from.

Fans in Madrid learned that lesson recently. Clapton was playing at the Movistar Arena, in what was a stacked set, full of his greatest hits. However, one fan decided it would be a good idea to launch a vinyl record onto the stage. That record struck the legendary musician in the chest.

Clapton, who had just finished playing "Cocaine," was originally scheduled to hit an encore rendition of "Before You Accuse Me." However, after the incident, he opted against coming back on stage. As such, the concert ended sooner than planned.

Fortunately, it doesn't seem like Clapton was injured from being struck with the vinyl. He's scheduled to perform in Barcelona on Sunday, May 10, before flying to Germany for the next phase of his tour.

Once the video of Clapton being struck in the chest reached social media, fans began to share their frustration with the situation.

"That is disgusting!" one user wrote on X. "What is wrong with people nowadays?"

Another user commented regarding Calpton's age, hinting at the risk that comes with being struck by objects.

"He is 81 years old and performing," the user pointed out. "You do not throw things. Sigh."

As you scroll through the list of comments left under the multiple videos that were shared, it's clear that the majority of fans were upset to see Clapton put in such a tough situation. As one user pointed out, the actions of one fan cost everyone in attendance the chance for another song.

"I imagine it ruin[ed] the evening for everyone; performers and audience, except for one idiot," the fan wrote.

Clapton's tour will reach its conclusion on Sunday, Sept. 27, when he plays the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Austin, Texas.
