The use of AI in music has been a hot topic over the past few years. Multiple artists have spoken out against the process, noting that AI has the potential to kill the music industry. However, legendary hip-hop producer Dr. Dre sees the value in adding AI to a creative workflow.

"I had a discussion with a few people a few days ago," Dr. Dre told The New York Times. "They were against AI and I'm like, 'OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.' Or synthesisers, right? It's a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things."
Dre then continued by noting that he's embracing AI and the impact it can have within creative industries.
"I'm embracing it," he continued. "I can't wait to see what's going to happen with this."
Of course, there's a difference between using AI as a tool to further improve your creative process and using it to replace creativity altogether. Unfortunately, as with any new technology, some people are choosing to blur the two lines.
For Dre, he's adding AI into his processes "as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did." In fairness, that's a smart move. Dre is essentially creating music before seeing if there's a twist that could elevate the track to another level.
"I think the only people that see it as a threat are the people who have trouble creating," Dre declared.
Jimmy Lovine Agrees With Dr. Dre
Jimmy Lovine, who is also a legendary music producer, agrees with Dr. Dre. During the same interview, he shared his thoughts on the use of AI within the creative process.
"I'm very pro-AI in music creation," he said. "I don't see the downside at all. There will be some crappy music. There's crappy music now. In the studio, when gifted people have AI, they're going to make better records."
Nevertheless, the topic of AI and music, along with many other industries, will remain a heated area of discussion. These things will always have their supporters and detractors.
