One of the most well-known Kid Rock songs of all time, "Picture," was co-written by the rocker and Sheryl Crow. The chart-climbing single from his album Cocky peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number four. Most of the world probably doesn't realize there are two versions of the song due to a bit of drama behind the scenes.
Though originally recorded with Crow, Kid Rock's label Atlantic Records was unable to get permission from Crow's label to release their version as a single. Odd considering she appears singing her part of the duet in the music video. The song had to be re-recorded with Allison Moorer in order to be released, but radio stations ignored this and still played the Crow version as well.
The song is even credited as Kid Rock featuring Sheryl Crow or Allison Moorer although the two versions do have different guitar solos that make them distinguishable.
Because the world needed another version, LeAnn Rimes performed the song with Kid Rock on his 2003 Christmas TV special, A Kid Rock Christmas. Maybe it's because this was a one-time thing, but I think this is my favorite version. Rimes' voice is such a nice compliment to Kid Rock (who also seems genuinely blown away), they really should plan on regularly performing together like this. Maybe next up is "Redneck Paradise"?
