Exclusive 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Episode 3 Clip: The Marshal Rides Into Town

The beginning of Bass Reeves' storied career.

He's Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves, and your wicked days are done. "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" Episode 3, premiering Sunday, Nov. 12 on Paramount+, features the titular frontier hero's first mission in the Marshal service. In an exclusive clip obtained by Wide Open Country, Reeves (David Oyelowo) takes down the robber Billy Crow, played by series newcomer Forrest Goodluck.

The two-episode premiere of "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" aired Nov. 5 on Paramount+, tracking Reeves' rise from enslavement to becoming one of the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi. Episode 2 ended with Dennis Quaid's Sherrill Lynn formally recruiting Reeves to the Marshal service at the behest of Judge Parker, a real-life figure played by Donald Sutherland

In Episode 3, we'll see the beginning of Reeves' storied career as a Deputy U.S. Marshal. Legend has it that he arrested more than 3,000 outlaws over the course of his life — without ever being seriously wounded. Here's the official logline for Episode 3:

"Bass is sworn in and embarks on his first mission as a U.S. Deputy Marshal. The Underwood gang strikes after Bass is let in on a secret."

In the below clip from Episode 3, Bass tracks down Billy Crow, a young robber with the notorious Underwood gang. He shows Billy the 'Wanted' poster with his name and portrait on it, saying, "Gotta admit, certain likeness. Wouldn't you agree?"

Billy attempts to flee and Bass trips him, causing the outlaw to go rolling across the dirt. Meanwhile, Garrett Hedlund ("Tulsa King"), playing a fictional character named Garret Montgomery, looks on.

Episode 3 marks the introduction of Forrest Goodluck, who is billed as a series regular in "Bass Reeves." In previously-released trailers, Goodluck's Billy Crow can be spotted fighting alongside Bass Reeves. Goodluck previously appeared in "The English," "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" and, most recently, "Pet Sematary: Bloodlines." The native actor made his feature film debut as Leonardo DiCaprio's son in "The Revenant" (2015).

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" Episode 3 was directed by Christina Alexandra Voros, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Cinematography for her work on another Taylor Sheridan series, "1883." The script was written by Jacob Forman ("The Last Survivors") and co-executive producer Ning Zhou ("Ozark").

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" was created by Chad Feehan. Taylor Sheridan and star David Oyelowo serve as executive producers on the eight-episode series, which is planned as an anthology series. Future seasons of "Lawmen" will feature all-new casts and follow other legendary Western figures

CBS will air the first two episodes of "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 9pm ET/PT, following the network's "Yellowstone" broadcast. Both episodes are now streaming on Paramount+.

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" Episode 3 premieres Sunday, Nov. 12 on Paramount+. Subsequent episodes premiere every Sunday on the streamer.
