Sometimes artists' emotions get the better of them. It can happen with little or no warning and right on stage mid-performance. It's sort of embarrassing, but also very human. It can even endear someone to an audience because it makes that person more relatable. Keeping our most intense feelings under wraps in public just is not always possible.

Lauren Alaina found that out when she was singing a tender song called "Little Things" after the death of her dad, J.J. Suddeth, two years ago. Glimpsing her mom offstage just made Alaina understandably lose it.
Lauren Alaina Posted the Weepy Incident on Social Media
She captioned the Instagram post, "I cried every night during this song when my momma came out to watch me. There's just something about seeing her there that made me so emotional. I just wanted her to hug me. Call your parents. Life is precious."
Others chimed in. Many shared their own melancholy thoughts of grief for their deceased parents. One wrote, "Very touching song @laurenalaina I know you're making him so proud. I hope mine is too."
Another commented, "Sending you so much love. Thank you for singing this song. I lost my mom unexpectedly in a car crash in June 2024 and the song explains the grief that I feel which is all the acquired love we didn't get to tell them. And we told them every day that we love them"
"Lost my dad at 19... I'm 33. This hits harddddd"
"I was at this show. You were so authentic your daddy loves you"
The Singer Issued a Statement Last Year About the Song
Lauren Alaina co-wrote "Little Things" with Seth Ennis, Emily Falvey, and Ross Copperman. In a statement about the sad track via 106.3 The Bear, she movingly explained, "The loss of my father was unexpected and life shattering. When you have a loss of this magnitude, the little things in life start to matter a lot less."
She added, " I will never forget the conversation I had with my brother on the way to the session I wrote this song. He said someone had complained to him about the cost of eggs. He said he just kept thinking to himself, 'My dad just died. I don't really care about the cost of eggs anymore.' It really struck me."
Experiencing a huge loss puts everything else in perspective. Alaina went on, "I told him when something that really matters happens, your eyes are opened to what doesn't. I told him I was going to write that song for us that day. I know our dad would be proud of us both."
