The music world mourned the loss of Raul Malo on Dec. 9, 2025. The 60-year-old frontman of the Mavericks not only left behind an expansive catalog of hits but a trove of unreleased music that many believed would never see the light of day.

But all that is about to change. Raul's wife, Betty, announced that the songwriter's archives are about to be opened.
New Music From Raul Malo Is on the Way
Betty shared details about unreleased music by Raul in a statement posted on his social media accounts.
"The Malo Family is honored to continue Raul's legacy," it began. "Nothing heals quite like music, and nobody did it better than Raul. He gave his whole heart to every lyric, every stage, and every soul lucky enough to hear him sing. His voice brought comfort and joy to so many, and that gift will live on forever."
The message went on, "Over the last five months, our family has walked through some of the hardest and darkest days of our lives. The loss, the heartbreak, and the quiet moments without Raul have been incredibly painful. But through it all, we have stayed strong because that is what Malos do."
"From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for continuing to honor Raul the way you have," it said. "He loved his fans deeply, and knowing how much his music meant to so many people has brought comfort to our family during this difficult time. Raul's commitment to music was unwavering, even through life's hardest moments. He blessed us with a vast archive of material that he hopes to share with the world. To honor his wishes, we will be announcing plans for future projects in celebration of his enduring spirit in the months ahead. Official information will always be shared here first."
The Mavericks Are Going on Tour
Earlier this month, The Mavericks announced that it is embarking on a tour this summer. Betty's statement encouraged fans to attend to honor Raul.
"We invite you to join us on this journey, and The Mavericks on their upcoming tour," said the statement. "Let's celebrate Raul's incredible life and legacy together. To use Raul's own words, 'We'll just keep rolling along...' With Love and Gratitude, Betty."
The Mavericks have enlisted the services of James Otto and Emily West to serve as guest vocalists. The tour opens on July 17 in Kansas City, Missouri.
