Late Country Icon Has New Music Coming Despite Passing

The late country legend will have music coming straight from the archives in May. His longtime co-producer is helping out.

One of the most tragic things that can happen in music is having an artist pass away. Whether they have a long-lasting legacy, or just starting out, it really is a blow to think you'll never get anything new from them again. But, as it turns out, new music can sometimes come from those who have passed.

As reported by Whiskey Riff, late country legend Don Williams will be releasing some new music for us. But, not in the traditional sense - this music will be coming straight from the archives.

If you don't know Don Williams, he was best known for his 1978 number 1 hit "Tulsa Time". He was also known for the occasional hit - think "I Believe In You", "It Must Be Love", "You're My Best Friend". He tragically passed away in 1978 from emphysema.

Don Williams has received a number of awards throughout his long and varied career. He won Male Vocalist of the Year at the 1978 CMA Awards, and the Single of the Year Award for "Tulsa Time". He was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.

But now, the archives have blessed us with some more songs from the late legend. Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes is set to release on Friday, May 29th.

What Does Don Williams' New Album Have in Store for Us?

Well, it's looking to be quite the show. The album comes from a series of work tapes found in his family home. They somehow were still in working condition - pretty uncommon, as all of us who are familiar with casettes know. There's about a million different things that can go wrong with them!

But, it's a really good thing they work. We're set to be blessed with some golden age Don Williams work. The tapes are from 1979-1984 - the years when some of his most successful songs were being released.

And, in a heartwarming turn of events, Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes is set to be produced by the very same co-producer that worked with Williams for his four-decade career. Garth Fundis has added that Williams would love "each and every song".

What great news! We can't wait to hear it!
