Lainey Wilson Provides Encouraging Update on Her Ill Father: “You Can’t Slow a Cowboy Down”

Lainey Wilson is providing an update on her father's health, calling the recovery so far "a miracle." The singer revealed that her father came close to dying, but he pulled through. He's had a lengthy recovery.

In July 2022, the country star abruptly announced she had an emergency in the family and that she would have to cancel her show in Iowa at the time. She kept things close to her chest and said she would return to the road shortly after to honor her father amidst his setback.

After keeping things close to her chest, Lainey finally dove into detail on the health scare. "He spent two months in a hospital from a fungal infection that completely took out the left side of his face," she told Taste of Country

She recalled in excruciating detail what doctors needed to do, "They had to remove his eye and they had to remove some bones in face. He had a stroke on top of all of that. He had nine surgeries in a month and a half. He's not supposed to be here."

After such a tough journey, Wilson shared a glimmer of hope into her father's recovery. Her father is doing so well that he is even riding horses again at home — a far cry from where he began. "He is great. Mama sent me a video of him the other day, riding a horse in the front yard. He's back at it. I'm so thankful, it was a miracle... It has taken him about two years to get back up on his feet. He's back at it, though; you can't slow a cowboy down."

Even after these tough blows in her family life, Lainey Wilson is maintaining her red-hot momentum. She has fully booked her shows for the rest of 2024 and is currently looking into what shows will look like for the country star in the upcoming years. She's also working on a follow-up album to her breakout album in 2022 Bell Bottom Country. On May 3rd, she released a duet with country veteran Keith Urban, "GO HOME WITH U."
