North Carolina Governor Josh Stein graciously said in a statement, "Kyle Busch was not just a talented and record-setting driver; he was also a kind person. His loss will be felt throughout the entire NASCAR community and well beyond. Anna and I send our deepest condolences to the Busch family during this incredibly difficult time. May his memory be a blessing."
Busch had important ties to the state. Per People, he was a resident of North Carolina with his family. NASCAR also makes North Carolina "a central hub."
North Carolina Gave Busch a Very High Honor
Few people are accorded the honor of having flags lowered to half-staff when they pass away. Kyle Busch received that honor in North Carolina. His death has had a tremendous impact that transcends sports. For that reason, Governor Stein instructed per the state website that "all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise Saturday, May 23 through sunset Sunday, May 24...."
Furthermore, the announcement added, "Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff...."
NASCAR Called Busch "a Generational Talent"
Busch died on Thursday, May 21, just 19 days after his 41st birthday. He left his parents, Gaye and Tom, his brother Kurt, his wife Samantha, and two young children, Brexton and Lennix. Plus countless grieving, stunned fans who adored and looked up to him. When someone leaves a void like that, it's very hard to gather yourself and move forward. It will be quite a while before the ache of Busch's loss diminishes.
In a reverent tribute to Kyle Busch on the NASCAR website, he is referred to a "a generational talent" whose passing "marked a sudden, staggering blow to the motorsports community." He will be studied, emulated, and missed deeply for a long, long time.
