Kid Rock helped spread some Christmas cheer in Music City when he paid off $81K in layaway debts at a Nashville Walmart. Inspired by actor and director Tyler Perry, who recently paid off $434,000 in layaways at an Atlanta-area Walmart, the artist took care of the balances of over 300 Nashville families.
Kid Rock tweeted to Perry, letting him know that his act of kindness inspired him to play Santa in his own city.
"Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville," Kid Rock wrote. "Merry Christmas and God Bless You!"

According to The Tennessean the shocked and grateful customers were given a card from Kid Rock that read "Merry Christmas from your neighbor!" when they went to pick up their Christmas presents.
Several customers reached out to Kid Rock on social media to express their gratitude.
@KidRock We were gonna have to give up our kids christmas this year because we needed to pay rent but now, because of you, our babies will have a good christmas!! So thank you so much!!

The artist's act of kindness follows a recent controversy in which the star made derogatory comments about "The View" co-host Joy Behar. Shortly after, he was removed as grand marshal of Nashville's 2018 Christmas parade. On Dec. 15, the music star will walk in the Christmas parade in Lieper's Fork, Tenn.
It seems that the holiday season inspires several celebrities to play secret Santa. In 2016, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill payed off $5,000 in layaways at a Florida Walmart and gave out cards that read "Merry Christmas, from Tim McGraw and Faith Hill."
