"Sen. McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning," Popp said. "He is receiving excellent care."

McConnell's hospitalization comes just months after he was previously admitted with flu-like symptoms. He spent eight days in the hospital as they treated him.

His latest hospital admission is the latest in a series of health episodes for the aging senator. Those episodes include falls and freezing while speaking in a public setting. One of those falls led to a reported concussion and broken ribs, following a tumble at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington DC. McConnell used a wheelchair following that injury.

McConnell is the longest-serving U.S. senator in history. However, he isn't the oldest. Both Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Bernie Sanders are older than him at 92 and 84, respectively.

"McConnell became a senator in 1985 and the body's majority leader in 2015," CNN has noted. "In that role, he helped shape President Donald Trump's first term, especially helping to usher through hundreds of federal judges."

Mitch McConnell Recently Announced His Retirement

McConnell recently announced that he wouldn't be running for re-election at the end of his current term. He's set to leave office in January 2027, per Fox News.

"Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of my lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time," McConnell said during his announcement, which took place on the Senate floor, via NBC News. "My current term in the Senate will be my last."

McConnell continued his statement by admitting that he had some "unfinished business to attend to" before stepping down from his role.

"So lest any of our colleagues still doubt my intentions for the remainder of my term, I have some unfinished business to attend to," McConnell said. "Regardless of the political storms that may wash over this chamber, during the time I have remaining, I assure our colleagues I will depart with great hope for the endurance of the Senate as an institution."

Hopefully, McConnell's latest admission to the hospital is short-lived, and he will allegedly be able to get back to work before bowing out of his role at the start of 2027.
