In the spring, the traditional Southern drink is a Mint Julep. But when the leaves start to fall off the trees and all thoughts turn to football Saturdays and autumn festivals, you need a warmer Southern drink. Enter the Kentucky Cappuccino. It's a spin on that great coffee drink from our friends in Ireland, using Kentucky bourbon and white creme de menthe instead of Irish whiskey. Now, you can ask your friendly neighborhood barista to make a cappuccino for you and add the other ingredients, but we have an easier way to make a cappuccino or latte at home.
Brew two ounces of espresso (or extra strong coffee) and pour in a good-sized mug. Add an ounce of bourbon (we're fond of Blanton's) and a half-ounce of white creme de menthe. Heat the milk in the microwave and use a milk frother if you have one, or you can use an immersion blender to froth the warm milk. Or simply pour the warm milk in a jar and place a tight lid on it, then shake the jar vigorously for about 30 seconds.
Add the frothed milk to your Kentucky cappuccino and enjoy with your favorite afternoon happy hour snack. We suggest a salted caramel brownie or dark chocolate muffin for a perfect balance with your spicy smooth drink.
This recipe was created in partnership with Blanton's Bourbon.
