His 2009 hit "Out Last Night" recently went viral after it was heard in the background of a TikTok video posted last month by a user named Mikala West.
After the video gained traction, Chesney posted his own video reaction to the awkward clip.
What Happened on the TikTok?
The video was filmed at a rowdy bar located in Huntsville, Alabama, just after the 2026 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo on March 27-28.
The event, held at John Hunt Park, features a skills competition and training for utility linemen. It is estimated that over 200 linemen showed off their skills in pole climbing, simulated rescues, and pipe cutting.
While the song by Chesney played, the friend then got cozy with one of the linemen. West used social media to find him.
"My friend found her soulmate last night in Huntsville Alabama after the lineman rodeo and we know nothing about him except his name is Mike and his friends kept calling him like the birds in Finding Nemo... Help us get Nemo home," the caption read.
This Video Seems Nice. Why Is It Awkward?
The comments for the clip were initially supportive of "Mike" and West's friend. But things took a turn when one user named Laura revealed something, well, uncomfortable.
"Hi! I'm Michael's wife. He's busy explaining this to our two children right now," they wrote.
Nothing like 25 million people knowing your dirty laundry. Since then, other users have added their own takes, claiming to be Mike's brother, mother, or other obscure family members. Some are funny. Others are disconcerting.
What Did Kenny Chesney Have to Say?
The singer added his own variation to the clip. He posted a video of the crowd at one of his shows singing the now-infamous song. The caption reads, "Heard we went out last night."
Fans knew immediately what Chesney was referencing. They shared their takes in the comments.
"This song feels messy now," one user wrote.
Another added, "Kenny Chesney needs to give Laura a free ticket to his show and put her in the front row !!!!"
Someone else wrote, "Little did Kenny know he was writing the theme song for 'Mike the Lineman' back in '09."
