Kenny Chesney Admits to Getting “So Much Anxiety” From Public Speaking

Kenny Chesney recently admitted that he doesn't like talking in front of small groups. But he can perform in front of thousands, no problem.

Kenny Chesney is on top of the world right now. The singer just released his book Heart Life Music and is getting ready for his summer residency at the Sphere. For someone with so much success under his belt, it's surprising to learn that Chesney is afraid of anything. But what's more, this singer recently shared that when he's not performing, having eyes on him isn't his favorite thing.

According to him, the smaller the crowd, the worse his anxiety gets. On Rob Lowe's Literally! podcast, Chesney got vulnerable. "I'm used to singing to 60,000 people, but you ask me to speak to 600, it's a completely different thing," he shared. "But I'm getting better at it."

Apparently, leading prayer at the dinner table is also a no-go. "Have you ever been in a situation where you're in a group of, like, 20 or 25 [people] before a meal and someone randomly asks you to say the prayer?" Chesney asked. "That's so much anxiety," he shared. "I crumble."

According to a 2025 Pollstar report, Kenny Chesney has likely played to over 18 million people in his career. The fact that speaking in front of 25 gets him in a sweat is crazy to even think about.

Chesney Calls "Heart Life Music" a "Love Letter" of a Memoir

Kenny Chesney calls his new book, Heart Life Music, "a love letter to people who shaped and inspired me." During an interview with CBS Mornings, Chesney shared, "I always said I'd never write a book, and now here we are... I wanted to make sure all the people and places that were so important to me were written down and remembered for all the magic they were."

According to Chesney, Heart Life Music isn't meant to be a traditional memoir. It gives credit to the people who helped him out before he was famous, highlights places that were important to him in his life, and talks about the significance of No Shoes Nation.

"'Heart Life Music' is about staying open to life," he revealed in another interview. "Being curious and following both your heart and opportunities... whatever you dream, if that's what makes your heart race, go for it. Know it's hard, but it's worth the sacrifice."

Kenny Chesney's Heart Life Music first hit bookshelves on November 4, 2025.
