Kelly Clarkson Is So Obsessed With the Red Clay Strays She Had To Do a Cover—and Of Course It Was Amazing

Kelly Clarkson's done it again. She's taken one of our favorite songs and made us question which version we want more of. Read more here.

There's a reason people are afraid of Kelly Clarkson covering their songs. The "Stronger" singer and host of The Kelly Clarkson Show hopped on during the "Kellyoke" segment of the show to sing a Red Clay Strays song, and we're officially obsessed.

The song she picked was "No One Else Like Me", which is a popular track off their Made By These Moments album. Clarkson had super high praise for the group after her performance, citing them as a group she's been "obsessive" over as of late.

"That was 'No One Else Like Me' by the Red Clay Strays," Clarkson shared. "They are a great band, already being honored as vocal group of the year by the CMA Awards." She then credited her bandmate, Jason, for introducing her to their music. "I've been listening to it nonstop, so you gotta check them out."

Will Kelly Clarkson Ever Make a Country Record?

So, will we ever get to hear country music from this Texas girl?

In a 2023 interview with American Songwriter, Kelly mentioned that, while she's never put out a country record, it's definitely something she's not opposed to writing. At the time, she was promoting Chemistry, her tenth studio album.

"I've never released anything [country music], but I'm always writing country," Kelly admitted. "And when I say country, I mean a specific sound of country. It's more old school. I don't know what I'll do with that, but I'm always writing it, so obviously it's there, and I really want to do it."

"Country has always been a common theme for me," she continued, highlighting artists like Hank Williams and Tammy Wynette.

"That kind of older country, I really, really dig. I don't know if I'll release it, and do it for me, and put it out for whoever takes it. I've done a lot of things in my career, and I've been very fortunate, but that's something I love. It's like a passion project that I've always wanted to do."

If Clarkson ever did decide to go that route, we certainly wouldn't be complaining. Just check out her cover of Ella Langley's "weren't for the wind," and you'll see what we're on about.
