Kelly Clarkson Further Proves Her Country Cred with '90s George Strait Cover

Clarkson performed Strait's 1997 hit "Carrying Your Love With Me."

Kelly Clarkson is famous for blowing her audience away with her performances of cover songs on "The Kelly Clarkson Show." The segment, dubbed "Kellyoke," sometimes features country songs. This week, she sang a classic by the King of Country Music, George Strait.

Clarkson took the stage to sing Strait's 1997 hit, "Carrying Your Love With Me." The singer/talk show host shared a fairly simple, straight-ahead version of the tune, but her strong distinctive voice makes the cover captivating enough without any extra flairs.

"Carrying Your Love With Me" is one of Strait's most memorable songs of the 1990s. It was released as the second single from his album of the same name, and it spent four weeks atop the country airplay chart in July of 1997. The song was also nominated for Best Male Country Vocal at the 1998 Grammy Awards.

Fans in the comments were over the moon about Clarkson's cover. One fans wrote, "Her ability to live every lyric as she's singing it is breathtaking." Another commented, "Keep teasing us with these country covers. Gorgeous tone, I'm melting." Another fan suggested Clarkson should record a country album soon.

Although Clarkson often performs songs from all genres, she has been dropping a few country covers lately. One week prior to the Strait tune, she performed Keith Whitley's classic, "When You Say Nothing at All." She also recently sang Lainey Wilson's "Country's Cool Again" with Wilson, herself, and she covered Wilson's "Smell Like Smoke" later in the week. Whether Clarkson is gearing up for a country project or simply digging into her Texas roots, it's clear fans are loving her country side.

Clarkson released her most recent album, Chemistry, last year.
