Country singer Kellie Pickler is opening up about the death of her husband, songwriter and musician Kyle Jacobs. Jacobs died by suicide earlier this year. He was 49.

"One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don't know what to do, 'do nothing, just be still,'" Pickler said in a statement to People. "I have chosen to heed his advice."

She also thanked supporters for the kind messages.

"Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way," the American Idol alum continued. "It has truly touched my soul and it's helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers."

The singer told The Tennessean that she's currently planning a memorial ceremony for Jacobs.

"I am planning an intimate memorial for my husband, which will happen later this fall, that is what Kyle would have wanted," Pickler said.

Pickler and Jacobs married in 2011. The couple starred together on the CMT documentary series I Love Kellie Pickler, which aired for three seasons.

Jacobs, who penned songs for Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Eli Young Band and more, won an ACM award in 2014 for his work as a producer on "I Drive Your Truck." He also collaborated with Pickler, Kelly Clarkson, Scotty McCreery, Darius Rucker and more throughout his career.
