Song Premiere: Kathryn Legendre Finds Beauty in Letting Go With 'Sit Here & Cry'

A staple of the Austin, Texas music scene, Kathryn Legendre has made a name for herself playing in true blue Texas honky tonks. And she comes by it honest. The singer-songwriter grew up in Helotes, Texas, where she spent much of her childhood watching shows at the legendary Floore's Country Store — the same venue where a young Willie Nelson cut his teeth.

Now Legendre is gearing up to release her new album Making it Up (out on May 17). The album's debut release, "Sit Here and Cry," is a pure country heartbreak song that sounds like something Loretta Lynn could've written while sitting on the porch at her Kentucky homeplace.

Legendre says she wrote the song as a reminder to herself that it's okay to be vulnerable.

"I tend to joke that this is a song born of stress. (Full disclosure, I was literally sitting on the floor of my closet before writing this.) For better or worse, the act of 'crying' is almost synonymous with failure in my mind; as if I can't handle the cards I've been dealt," Legendre tells Wide Open Country. "But every once in a while, I have to remind myself that I'm human and let it go. This song, for me, is ultimately about giving up control."

Making it Up is the follow-up to Legendre's 2016 EP Don't Give a Damn.
