Kacey Musgraves Got Her Start On An 'American Idol' Competitor And Is Thankful Most Fans Don't Realize It

Kacey Musgraves is a huge star now, although there was a time in her life when not many knew her name. I think we've all forgotten, but the musician did appear on a season of Nashville Star, although she's glad no one remembers.

Many stars did compete on Nashville Star throughout its seven-season run, but it didn't exactly produce many stars itself. Like Musgraves, who appeared on the show but only later garnered her popularity.

She spoke about her experience with Yahoo! Music, according to Taste of Country.

Musgraves competed on Season 5, which aired in 2007. She was only 18 at the time, and didn't seem ready enough. It may come as a surprise, but the singer was fourth to be eliminated, placing her seventh. Little did the judges know.

"It's probably a good thing that people don't remember me from that time period," Kacey Musgrave said. "I was very young and figuring myself out musically and personally. It was a great platform to get myself kind of accustomed to being in the industry and seeing what it was like being away from my tiny little hometown in Texas."

She had just started her journey, so naturally, she wasn't to be star material right away. Success doesn't come overnight (for most people, anyway), and has to be worked on.

Musgraves Reflects On Her 'Nashville Star' Experience

Kacey Musgraves mentions how her experience with Nashville Star wasn't a totally negative one, but wasn't totally realistic, either.

"Being in an environment like that kind of thickens your skin," she admitted, "but I also don't think it's very realistic, because music wasn't made to be judged by three people."

"But it was good to walk away with some constructive criticism. It was what it was and it was good, and then I moved to Nashville and I got to just really take my time writing and figuring things out and developing myself, and I'm really, really thankful I had that time."

I'm glad Musgraves can look back positively at her time with Nashville Star. It may not have been the success she was hoping for, but it paved the way for future successes.
