If you made it to the end of Kacey Musgraves' new album, Pageant Material, you were treated to "Are You Sure", a dreamlike duet with Willie Nelson. The airy transition from silence to the gentle wail of steel guitar makes the listener feel as if they've stepped into an other-worldly honky tonk.
The new video is just as haunting as the song. Shot in the White Horse Saloon in Austin, Texas, the video's colors are drenched in neon pink and smokey bar haze. Musgraves sits at a bar and sings the sad lyrics: "Look around you, at the faces down the bar/Are you sure this is where you want to be?" As the camera slides down to reveal Nelson a few stools over, he looks up and picks up the next verse. The two Texans later join on stage, and share a few moments with Musgraves backing band.
"Are You Sure" is a deep-cut from Nelson's third album released in 1965. Musgraves loves the song, and took to social media back in to declare: "Willie Nelson's 'Are You Sure' -- two minutes and 13 seconds of the realest shit you'll ever hear." A year or so later, they cut the song. Watch Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson share the stage together in the video below.
