Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton Stun With George Jones Classic ‘Tennessee Whiskey’

Chris Stapleton‘s duet with Justin Timberlake was the most buzzed-about performance during this year’s CMA Awards.

The pair opened with Stapleton’s new rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey”, written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, and covered by David Allan Coe and George Jones in the early 80s. Stapleton recorded a bluesier, soul-inspired version of the song for his debut album, Traveller, which picked up the CMA Award for Album of the Year. You can watch Timberlake and Stapleton, also joined by Stapleton’s wife Morgane, sing “Tennessee Whiskey” in the video above.

Keeping in line with the evening’s theme of drinking someone away, the duet then played Timberlake’s, “Drink You Away”, which, without a doubt, brought down the house. The video of the performance quickly went viral after the show. The performance was punch after punch of Memphis blues and R&B. Sure, it wasn’t all that country, but it sure was fun to watch.
