Julianne Hough to Star as Jolene in Dolly Parton's Upcoming Netflix Series

Dolly Parton's Netflix series Heartstrings will premiere in 2019, but we don't have to wait to find out who'll play the main characters in one of the country legend's most notorious songs. Actress, dancer and singer Julianne Hough will play the titular role in the "Jolene" episode of the series, which is inspired by Parton's music.

According to the Hollywood Reporter,  Hough will portray "a flirtatious free spirit who wants to escape her hometown of Coventry, Georgia, and become a singer-songwriter." Kimberly Williams-Paisley will portray Emily, a wife and mother who ends up on one side of the love triangle. Dallas Roberts will appear as Aaron, a husband and father who's dealing with a mid-life crisis.

Of course, no "Jolene" story would be complete without an appearance from Parton herself. The beloved performer will appear in the episode as Babe, the vivacious owner of Baby Blues, the local honky-tonk.

Hough shared her excitement about the project on social media.

"It is such an honor to be working on this project with @kimberlywilliamspaisley and Dallas, and of course the one and only @dollyparton herself. You are such an inspiration! Miss Dolly wrote songs in the 60s and 70s that are still so relevant and meaningful today," Hough wrote on Instagram.

Heartstrings isn't the only new project on the way for Parton. The singer recently released "Girl in the Movies," from the forthcoming soundtrack for the Netflix film Dumplin'. Parton co-wrote six original songs on the soundtrack with producer and artist Linda Perry. The soundtrack is rounded out by re-imagined Parton songs, featuring collaborations with Miranda Lambert, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Macy Gray, Mavis Staples and more.

Dumplin', which premiers on Netflix on Dec. 7, centers on Willowdean Dixon (Danielle Macdonald), a plus-size teenager who enters her small Texas town's beauty pageant. Her mother, a former beauty queen, is played by Jennifer Aniston.

Parton released "Jolene" in 1973 as the first single from her album of the same name.
