Where there's a blame there's a claim. A family has managed to sue the conglomerate giant, Walmart, for $2.7 million after their child ran into a trolley.

As a seven-year-old boy, Saiy'yah Allen-Bey ran into a trolly bay, smashing his head, and causing permanent damage. For two and a half years, the boy suffered from seizures and was in need of constant attention. In May of 2023, he died from his injuries.
The boy's family then took Walmart to court, blaming them for his injuries and attempting to sue. They claim that due to their negligence, the young boy ran into the metal trolley, causing him to die. It's a long shot, and as much as I dislike faceless corporations like Walmart, there needs to be some kind of limit to pinning blame.
The child's family was devastated by the damage done to their son after he ran into the trolleys. However, the mistake happened when he was running around the supermarket, and not looking forward. He smashed his head and caused the permanent brain damage himself. Walmart argued this was his fault, claiming no right to sue.
However, the court awarded Saiy'yah Allen-Bey's family $9 million for the lawsuit. But, later, the jury decided that Walmart was only 30% responsible. This meant that the family could only sue Walmart for 30% of the full settlement. They were still able to walk away with $2.7 million.
Family To Sue Walmart For A Dangerous And Unsafe Condition
The family claimed that the boy ran into the shopping carts due to the unsafe conditions in Walmart, giving them reason to sue. However, Walmart had other ideas. "Walmart is not liable for the incident as the stock cart was so open and obvious that he should have been reasonably expected to discover it and protect himself (by simply walking around it). He failed to use his senses and was walking while looking backward, therefore he did not observe the open, obvious, and innocuous stock cart."
As much as I hate to admit it, and the loss of their child is tragic, I have to somewhat agree. Life cannot be covered in cotton wool, and accidents happen. The world is a dangerous place, and lack of attention can often come with fatal consequences.
Of course, that family should sue Walmart for everything they can. It's good that the big faceless company can help a grieving family with their loss. They won't even feel a $2.7 million payout anyway. However, sometimes accidents happen.
