Following an iconic three-decade-spanning on-camera career, Judge Judy is retiring her gavel.

Judy Sheindlin, the main attraction of the long-running television series Judge Judy, announced that she is stepping away from the courtroom when her Prime Video series Judy Justice ends in October, according to multiple outlets.

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Sheindlin shed light on what she looks forward to most post-retirement.
"I have a lot of other things of interest," said Sheindlin. "I don't want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there."
According to PEOPLE, Sheindlin also looks forward to spending quality time with her family and developing the "Judyverse."
The outspoken judge will produce "Adam's Law," a syndicated court show featuring her son Adam Levy.
Judge Judy's Son Will Star in His Courtroom Show
The new series will debut Sept. 14 and will boast a similar layout to Judge Judy, with Levy passing judgment on small claims cases.
"There aren't a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted," says Sheindlin. "He has what it takes."
Levy, 58, graduated from New York's Hofstra Law School.
Levy worked in private practice and served two terms as the D.A. in Putnam County, NY. He later joined Amazon's "Tribunal Justice," a courtroom reality series.
Levy gained three years of on-camera experience on Tribunal Justice, which his mother believes will serve him well as her replacement.
"Maybe eight years ago he wasn't ready," Sheindlin said. "He's ready now."
Sheindlin starred in Judge Judy for 25 seasons, delivering countless memes and viral moments along the way. The series premiered in 1996 and ended in 2021 once Sheindlin transitioned to streaming with "Judy Justice."
Sheindlin will be celebrated with the CBS special Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
As she enters the next phase of life, Sheindlin expressed that she has no regrets.
"I don't think that I've ever been this content before," she told PEOPLE. "Don't have to prove anything else. I did it."
