This time, dear readers, Joy Behar, 82, made a gag comparing faking gift pleasantries with faking an orgasm. She then decided to follow through with an example.
On Friday, the hosts had a bit of festive fun and spoke about "resting gift face." For those who consistently receive good gifts from others, this describes the act of putting on a pleasant face when receiving gifts, even for those you really aren't a fan of.
One at a time, the panelists show their resting gift faces, to the delight of each other and the audience. Joy Behar, however, dismissed the difficulty of the so-called resting gift face. She said it was easy. Easy as, in fact, faking an orgasm.
"It's really nothing, it's not that hard," she began. "It's like faking an orgasm."
"Piece of cake!"
Behar then demonstrated. "Wow, oh, God, I love it, oh my God," she unenthusiastically said while waving her head around, "it's nothing." Everyone laughed at the joke as she continued, "we're all very practiced at that!"
Ana Navarro then quickly quipped, "I'll have what she's having." A reference to When Harry Met Sally.
'The View' Cast Discuss Resting Gift Face
The fake orgasm isn't such an offensive gesture and is pretty funny when you get past the initial cringe of seeing it. Although maybe that's just me.
The rest of the hosts also discuss their reaction to receiving bad gifts, with Navarro going next. She says how she's run out of patience for such things. "It's not even resting, it's just the b---h face," she said.
Goldberg, Hostin, Griffin, and Haines, all had the same experiences and faces, however. The faux smiles and expressions that hide the disappointment are shared between them.
Even their canned phrases were dished out, including Hostin's "thank you for thinking of me." Now that the cat's out the bag, they'll have to reinvent their gifting reactions. Well, aside from Navarro, who's already abandoned the premise long ago.
At least you'll know if you've got her a great gift.
