Texas favorites The Josh Abbott Band have released a video for their new single, “Amnesia.”
The song is featured on their recent concept album, Front Row Seat, which chronicles a failed romantic relationship. “Amnesia” takes place in the fifth act of the album. The song details the struggle of erasing the memory of a lost lover.
The video has a sort of sci-fi theme similar to the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Abbott consults a doctor who tells him he can erase his memories with a mind wipe. Abbott has acted in previous videos, but this one showcases the most of his acting ability to date.
Abbott co-wrote the song with Nashville’s songwriter with the Midas touch, Shane McAnally. We talked with Abbott last year about the song.
“I told Shane, ‘I know I’m supposed to write a hit, but I really just want to write a good song,’” Abbott said. “We started talking about weird stuff and he said he always wanted to write a song called ‘Amnesia,’ but a lot of people wouldn’t write it because it doesn’t sound like a radio single. I was like, ‘Dude I’ll write it.’”
Front Row Seat finds the band exploring several new sounds and styles. It is easily their strongest record to date. The record has helped push them out of Texas and onto the national stage. The group recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
