Jelly Roll has found himself in some hot water over the past week. The "Save Me" singer has been hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the past few days, filling in for Kimmel. During a handful of those episodes, Jelly Roll opted to use President Donald Trump as the basis for a couple of his jokes.
As you can imagine, those jokes certainly split opinions. In fact, Jelly Roll, who is usually beloved by the masses, quickly began receiving negative criticism. With that in mind, country icon John Rich has taken to social media to defend Jelly Roll, while also sharing his thoughts on the situation.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! has found itself in hot water over jokes about Trump on multiple occasions. However, it's unlikely that anybody expected Jelly Roll, the latest host, to fall into that trap. Still, given his widespread popularity, it's unlikely Jelly Roll will be navigating a different landscape within his fanbase.
The Latest Joke From Jelly Roll Saw Him Double Down
Jelly Roll's first joke about President Trump came during the opening night of his guest tenure. Interestingly, rather than apologizing, he doubled down on Tuesday, August 25.
"It's because I'm hosting a damn late night show," he said. "That's where you talk about the news and you make jokes. But I guess apparently because I did it, it really messed with people's heads."
However, Jelly Roll didn't leave things there. Instead, he once again made a joke about the President on Thursday, August 27.
"Speaking of cheeseballs, let's talk about Donald Trump," Jelly Roll said. "The president is doubling down on his ridiculous trade war with Canada. And they're saying this could lead to higher prices for several products, including whiskey, smartphones, but most alarmingly, toilet paper. But you have to admit, there is something poetic about it being so expensive to wipe our a** just because the president's full of s--t."
Clearly, Jelly Roll has been undeterred by the negative sentiment to his jokes. He's saying what he finds funny and embracing what his role on the show entails. Still, if country stars such as Rich are starting to defend him, then the number of displeased fans is clearly growing at a rapid rate.
