Joey and Rory Feek shared their appreciation for the overwhelming support from fans during Joey’s treatment for cervical cancer.
The couple was surprised to receive a huge container of letters, cards and packages from fans shortly after arriving at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Chicago.
“The mailman delivered a few ‘get well’ cards to the hospital for Joey this morning — a few hundred that is!” the couple shared on Facebook. “So beautiful. Sometimes thank you isn’t enough.”
Joey and Rory have been publicly sharing their experiences during efforts to treat Joey’s Stage IV cervical cancer, which she was diagnosed with in June. The singer had previously battled cancer a year earlier; but the disease returned in a different and more aggressive form.
Joey underwent surgery on July 9 and her husband updated fans the next day, saying the treatment went according to plan. Joey will now undergo 18 weeks of aggressive chemotherapy in hopes of eradicating the cancer. This would be a stressful and overwhelming ordeal for any couple, but the two seem determined to stay positive even during the most difficult of times.
“Some roads we go down in life are smooth and easy, and some we take are rough and rocky,” Rory explained in a post on his blog, This Life I Live. “This one’s gonna be a little bumpy and scary at times… but we’re gonna go down it together the same way we’ve gone down all the ones before — hand in hand — taking it one moment, one hour, and one day at a time.”
