Authorities have charged William Stevenson with first-degree murder in the death of his current wife, according to TMZ. Stevenson is the ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden.

Local police responded to a reported domestic dispute at Stevenson's home in Delaware on Dec. 28, 2025. Authorities found his wife, Linda, unresponsive in the living room and pronounced her dead at the scene.
"New Castle County Police tell TMZ ... officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at a home in Oak Hill around 11:15 Sunday night and found Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room," TMZ reported on Dec. 30.
Stevenson is reported to have been cooperative with the police throughout the incident. His bond has been set at $500,000. Interestingly, Stevenson is also the person who called the authorities on Dec. 28.
According to Delaware Online, Stevenson was indicted using a "Rule 9" indictment.
"Police said little else about the December incident. Court documents obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal said only that he "did intentionally cause the death of Linda Stevenson." He was indicted by a New Castle County Grand Jury using a "Rule 9" indictment, which does not make the police charging documents publicly accessible," Delaware Online reported.
No information has been provided regarding the cause of Linda's death.

Stevenson, 77, was previously married to Jill Biden, the wife of former President Joe Biden, in the 70s. During an interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Jill admitted that at first, she blamed herself for the divorce.
"It took me a long time, it took me at least a year to get on my feet again," Jill said. "I didn't know anybody who had been divorced, I felt like it was a failure on my part [and] I lost my self-esteem because I kept thinking, "What's wrong with me, why couldn't I make this work?"
Jill ultimately met Joe Biden long before his presidency. They've been married since June 17, 1977.
"And then... just unexpectedly, I met Joe, and I had met him once befor,e but it was kind of a blind date when he called me," Jill explained.
Jill has not spoken of her ex-husband's arrest to date.
