"Let's Make This a Positive Journey": Jill Biden Gets Candid About Living With Husband Joe's Cancer

Former first lady Jill Biden is talking frankly about the reality of day-to-day life with the shadow of her husband Joe's cancer diagnosis hanging over both of them. Per People, the former president, who is 83, has prostate cancer that metastasized to his bones. Despite the seriousness of that situation, however, Jill Biden, 75, seems focused on taking each day as it comes. She is staying realistic yet positive.

"Of Course I'm Scared"

On The Jaime Kern Lima Show, Jill acknowledged, "Of course I'm scared. I mean, first of all, he's almost 10 years older than I am. And with an illness ... you kinda can't let your head go there." She added, "It's like, you can't imagine life without them. But you know they're going to die — just like I know I'm going to die. So part of it, you accept."

She and Joe Biden seem bent upon extracting all the happiness from the time they have together. Thoughts of mortality may creep in but are not dwelled upon. Darkness does not get the upper hand. Jill clarified, "It's like, you can't imagine life without them. But you know they're going to die — just like I know I'm going to die. So part of it, you accept."

"Let's Be Together"

Furthermore, on that topic, Jill Biden frankly shared, "...We look at it like, 'Joe has cancer. He's gonna die, so let's make the most of every moment. Let's be together ... let's find things that bring us joy. Let's make this a positive journey' — I mean, not a negative journey, because how can you live with that every day? You can't. It's too heavy."

She Is Not Slowing Down

Even in the face of Joe Biden's health crisis, Jill Biden has not noticeably curtailed her own activities. In fact, this year, she published a book, View from the East Wing. She maintained a hectic publicity schedule to get the word out about it. The book provides an intimate glimpse of Jill's life as first lady during a tumultuous time in America. She stepped into the role with a global pandemic raging and amidst fierce debate over the events of January 6, 2021.
