Jessie James Decker Talks Songwriting, Inspiration and Her Path to Stardom

Jessie James Decker is known for her gusty, relatable lyrics and infectious melodies. Now, the 28-year-old talent is gearing up to release a brand new EP, Gold, and is giving Wide Open Country readers a peek into what drives her.

Although she began singing at the age of nine, Decker first burst onto the mainstream scene in 2009 with her steamy hit single "Wanted." Since then, she's supplied a string of fiercely feminine tunes, from the heartfelt ballad "I Do" to the irresistibly hooky "Clint Eastwood." But writing and creating great music is no easy feat, even for someone as talented as Decker.

In this exclusive behind the scenes video, Jessie discusses the challenges that inspired her dive into songwriting and the importance of connecting with her fans.

Jessie James Decker's Gold EP drops tomorrow, Feb. 17. The project features five new tracks, with songwriting credits from Decker, Maren Morris, Jeffrey Steele and Jesse Frasure. The EP's lead single, "Lights Down Low," showcases her signature sound. And with over six million streams and counting, it seems to already be a hit with fans both new and old.

You can find a full list of Jessie's upcoming tour dates at her official website.
