Jelly Roll’s WWE Career Takes a Positive Turn

Jelly Roll secured his first WWE victory during his singles match with Kit Wilson on 'Friday Night SmackDown' earlier this week.

Don't look now, but the budding WWE career of Jelly Roll has taken a positive turn. The "Save Me" singer has been featured in recent episodes of SmackDown, building somewhat of a storyline with Kit Wilson. On Friday, March 27, the pair faced off in the ring.

The match was Jelly Roll's first since teaming with Randy Orton at SummerSlam. Furthermore, it was the first singles match of the music superstar's wrestling career. To be fair, Jelly Roll didn't disappoint.

In fact, the "Son Of A Sinner" singer secured a victory in the match. However, in true WWE style, it didn't come without some controversy. Jelly Roll hit Wilson with multiple shots that could have been determined as "low blows." Fortunately for Jelly Roll, the referee deemed them to be perfectly legal, and the match was allowed to continue.

Ultimately, Jelly Roll secured the win by hitting Wilson with a choke slam, and yes, it was a good one!

The match between Wilson and Jelly Roll had been set up in the previous week's episode of SmackDown. Wilson challenged the music star after a heated poetry battle that saw Jelly Roll insult his mother.

Jelly Roll Could Be Building to a WrestleMania Moment

According to longtime WWE insider Dave Meltzer, Jelly Roll could be factored into WWE's programming for WrestleMania in April.

"I kind of wonder where they're going with Jelly Roll," Meltzer said. "It just feels to me they're going to build to some gimmick match with Kit Wilson, maybe a tag with The Miz because The Miz has been involved in the storyline. They could do that. I had asked about the story because there was a story about Royce Keys, and I was told that it's not Royce Keys, for whatever that's worth. I wasn't actually told that there is a match [for Jelly Roll], but when you look at it, it certainly seems like they're building it."

Looking at how things are shaking out with Wilson and also with Randy Orton (who RKO'd the "Need A Favor" singer to end SmackDown), Meltzer might be right. The music star appears to love being in a WWE ring. Furthermore, he's a big draw for the company. Therefore, a spot at WrestleMania could be a win-win for everyone involved.
