There aren't many people more famous than Jelly Roll right now. It doesn't matter what corner of the world you find yourself in; most people will know his name. Still, that level of fame doesn't occur overnight. That means, at some point, Jelly Roll likely had an 'I'm famous' moment of realization.

During a recent conversation with People, which took place at a junket for Netflix's Star Search, where Jelly Roll is a celebrity judge, the "Save Me" singer explained how he came to realize that he's "California famous."
"I'll tell you this, this show was the first time I couldn't walk down Rodeo Drive," Jelly Roll said. "For real. I'm California famous now. "I go to Rodeo Drive every time I'm here. The white trash kid who wants to go to Beverly Hills Cookies or something. And I'm always excited to go over there because nobody knows me. This was the first time me and my wife [were recognized]."
In truth, we should be more surprised that it's taken this long. It feels like Jelly Roll has been a household name for years, especially in the United States. Still, Jelly Roll can chalk the experience up to being another 'first' in his continued rise as a superstar.
Jelly Roll Was Recently "Treated Like a Criminal" in Australia
Perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised that Jelly Roll is shocked by being "California famous," after all, it was only a few months back that he had a nightmare-like experience in a Louis Vuitton store while touring Australia and New Zealand.
"Hey man, the Louis Vuitton in Sydney legitimately just treated us like we were finna come in and rob that place," Jelly Roll said in a now-deleted Instagram Story. "I have never been looked at more like a crim...Listen, the last time I was looked at like a criminal this bad — I was an actual criminal this bad."
Maybe that's why he didn't expect to be recognized while out in Rodeo Drive. After all, recent experiences help shape our expectations. Fortunately for Jelly Roll, he was recognized, and probably more than he anticipated. Alas, that's part and parcel of being one of the hottest music acts on the planet.
