Song Premiere: Jason James' Lovelorn Honky-Tonker 'Move A Little Closer'

Texas artist Jason James channels fellow Lone Star State legend Waylon Jennings on "Move A Little Closer," the first release from James' forthcoming album Seems Like Tears Ago (out on Oct 4). Like Jennings' classic warning to a heartbreaker on "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line," James tells a partner who lets him down "a thousand different ways" that his patience is wearing thin.

"Lovin' you's like sleepin' on the tracks/ I'm just waitin' around to die," James sings. "You better move a little closer before I say it's over and daddy totes it down the line"

James says the recorded version of  "Move A Little Closer" captures the energy of the live show staple.

"'Move A Little Closer' has been a crowd favorite and staple song in our set for a couple of years," James tells Wide Open Country. "I knew it needed to be on the next record. Some songs can take on a different feeling though when you step into a studio — not this one though, it just continued to do what it does best — roll on down the track. After we cut it, someone said, 'well there's your first single.'"

Seems Like Tears Ago is the follow-up to James' self-titled 2015 debut album.
