Jason Aldean Plays First Full Concert in Vegas Since Route 91: 'Let's Finish What We Started'

On Dec. 6-8, Jason Aldean played his first three full concerts in Las Vegas since the Oct. 1, 2017 mass shooting that began during Aldean's set at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.

The three-night residency was part of Aldean's Ride All Night Tour and began Friday night at Park MGM's Park Theater.

"We got a lot of people in the crowd who are family to us, so welcome everyone from Route 91," Aldean told the crowd, as quoted by People. "We came back to blow it out for you guys tonight. Let's finish what we started, what y'all think!"

USA Today reports that Aldean ended Friday's set with "When She Says Baby," the song they'd been playing when the shooting began.

"Last time we were starting this song here, we got a little interrupted," he said on Friday, as quoted by People. "Let's finish it."

Aldean also revisited a cover of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down," which he performed on Saturday Night Live six days after the 2017 tragedy.

Even Aldean's carefree material took on special meaning across three special nights. The fun "We Back" became downright triumphant while "Any Ol' Barstool" served as the soundtrack to a moment captured for Twitter when a man in a wheelchair, wearing a Route 91 festival T-shirt and waving an American flag, was hoisted above the crowd.

The Route 91 shooting, the largest mass shooting by one person in U.S. history, claimed the lives of 58 people and wounded 413 others. In November of 2019, a 59th person died from injuries sustained during the shooting.

Aldean and his wife Brittany visited survivors in Las Vegas shortly after the shooting. Later in the fall, Aldean performed at a fundraiser for shooting victims featuring an all-star cast of country music performers.

Aldean last appeared in Las Vegas in April to accept the ACM's Artist of the Decade award.
